The free dancing Freak Was allegedly Seen @ the Robert Randolph & the Family Band @ The Quest Club in Mpls. As you may recall I ended the Freak Has Been Scene 75 on this show qualifiying this stellar voyage of a show for double coverage as we open with it here (as all Freak Have Been Scenes overlap for maximun effect). Robert is a hero rock diety rising ultra quickly on the overall scene. The Family Band is as potent as they are talented proving this every moment of this live improv musical feast. At one point all the musicians would shift to the next instrument until ridiculously every member had played every instrument including their own. There was another ultra fresh funky & freakified take off on Hendrix grooves nailing lethally a good evil few like psych anthemic "Purple Haze". Other highlights were "I need more love", "People Get Ready", & the searingly sexy "Shake Your Hips" (with dancing women fans all over stage). I also fondly remember a wicked wild ride on Led Zep's subtle freakout "No Quarter". And who could forget one of RR's signature swan songs the manic "The March" one truly that could teach anyone to dance even if they had 2 left feet. This mystifyingly beautiful show will endear many years in my memory banks. I really really want to interview Robert more than ever now & thinking that way will allow it to gently happen. Support this kind family & their precious generous music. Save us.
