October 23, 2004

Holy roly poly wow.. this is a huge almost circus worthy show & a freaking half. What I'm talking about is when the freak got freakwently freaked when he got to frequent the Cabooze for the triple threat freakout of the Rising Star Fife & Drum Band (also from rural Mississippi) , Dirty Dozen Brass Band & our dear friends the North Mississippi Allstars. Damn, is this a hot to trot combo of styles & music. I unfortunately missed the RSD&F show but I heard it was a deeply rootsy throw down joy with NMA's Luther jumping in for some guitar for extra fire. Dirty Dozen's set was a truly rocking socking dirty duty demensia of brassy soul & party style vibe. The North Mississippi Allstars (especially with Evil Uncle Timmy at their sound helm) simply cannot be stopped. And why should they be? It was full on southern revival electro hill boogie potently unleashed all the live long night with intensely wandering tendencies toward heavy rock, fervent swerving sexy funk & searing sinister blues too nasty to expound upon. Many of the freak's personal fave tunes were played marking & sparking this wonder infused occasion to his utter delight & fun was had as far as the freak eye could see (especially down on the dancefloor). Dancing, it seems, is always the first order of biz at a North Mississippi show. Besides busting them moves, partying afterwards is always a virtual blast with these kind cats as well & this evening was no exception. Hats (& helmets for you die-hards) off to this da baddest band in da wide wanna jamba land. G 'head. Take my way, Speak my language.
